If you're still deciding, go with the .280!

You'll gain nothing in performance by choosing the 7mm-08.  If you weren't loading a single-shot by hand where cartridge length isn't a problem, but were instead using a short action bolt rifle or lever gun, the shorter length of the 7mm-08 (or .308) makes sense.

The .270 is a great round that shoots flat and farrrrr.  I've killed mule deer, elk and pronghorns with that round - probably 14-16 head.

The .280 shoots as well (even just as flat with same bullet weights at exact same velocity as the .270, because the 7mm bore is slightly more aerodynamic).

Plus the 160 grain bullets in 7mm are standard weights in that bore, not a custom weight like it is in .277.

So unless someone simply likes the idea of shooting a 7mm-08 in a Handi-Rifle, the .280 is the better of the two.

And if a fellow doesn't reload, the .270 is better choice than the 7mm-08 as well.
