Choate Machine and Tool stocks.

Are the Choate synthetic stocks a direct replacement for H-R/NEF wood stocks? Or do they require some hand fitting to the action/barrel. I'm not concerned about the butt stock but the forearm. Does it literally just 'drop' into place like the factory wood one does? Does it change the opening of the action and the lockup if it's not exactly the same as my factory stock? I'm still a little 'green' when it comes to NEF's so maybe this is a dumb question. :grin:

Hi Jim,
I don't have a Choate stock, but I do have a Survivor stock and they are made by Choate for NEF.

My understanding is that there isn't any fitting required, nor any issues around opening or lock up, but I am open to be corrected by someone who has personal experience that differs.

BTW the only dumb questions are the ones not asked.

I just bought the forearm thats on the new fluted varmit gun and it fit great on my 308. Got 1.25'' group with no washer or oring. looks better to me also. I think most of the rifle forends will interchange. Except maybe shotgun it might fit might not look to good.

Thanks a bunch guys! :grin:  Now I just have to decide between the two that I think will work best. BTW, the gun the stock will be going on is a NEF Handi in .204. I think the round is amazing. Now I have not shot a 22-250, 220 Swift, or 223 so I maybe overstating the .204's worthyness, but the accuracy, no recoil (but HUGE muzzle blast and noise), and the rounds impact caracteristics are excellent in my opinion. Got two NEF's right now, looking at buying a third :shock:. Never thought these guns were worth much 'till I bought the first one, now I'm heading straight for 'Handi-holic land'.
