« on: October 23, 2005, 03:47:00 AM »
i bought a 308 survivor the other day and i have a 22 inch heavy barrel in .223
i tried putting the barrel on the survivor frame and it fit
it doesnt have any forward movement at all but it does have a small amount of side to side shake
do you guys think it would be safe to shoot it??
there is no gap visible between the barrel and frame
let me know
thanks,

i'm no expert but i'd say, until someone who knows more posts with what to do, don't shoot it, probably could but better safe than sorry.

If you have the forarm on it will pull out the back and forth movement, take it off and then re-check.  Also check to see if you have any free play at the top of the release lever travel, if not then the latch is most likely not latching up tight.  Larry

From the factory I had a little side way movement. I took off the forearm, the unscrewed the plactic piece at the bottom, and cut out a card board shim and screwed the plastic piece back with the shim behind it. Tightened up the whole thing. Did that and then added an O-Ring and it shoots like a dream right now.

I had a 243 with side to side movement and it would not group every shot would jump several inches from the last. Sent to factory they fixed it and it shoots great now.

Since you putting a unfitted barrel on your Survivor frame..you need to fit it correctly.You need to ensure you have good lock up on it..and having side to side movement isn't a good idea.While it may shoot  and function ok..I doubt you get the accuracy most 223 Handi's get...and it will most likely string shots horizontally..

Read the FAQ's on fitting the barrels and take what steps are needed...I don't think NEF will fix it for you since it isn't a new barrel and frame combo from them...
