Sloppy T/C barrel chambers ?
« on: October 17, 2005, 03:48:40 AM »
I want to get a 23" .223 barrel for my Contender.
I have read that the chambers are sloppy and drilled off center.
Is this what you have found to be true.
Custom barrel is not an option, not in the budget.
Failure is not an option

I had one of the 23" 223 barrels and it shot MOA with 50gr bullets.  I sold it though because I don't like the 23" bull barrel.  I like the 21" tapered barrels much better.

Although I really like the custom barrels and have several. The truth is very very few factory barrels ever really have anything wrong with them. Buy a carbine length barrel, shoot it, if you don't like it sell it off on ebay (you may loose a couple bucks) and buy a full up custom job. Expect to pay upwards of $375-400 for one tho.

Hi I purchased a new G2 rifle with a 23" .223 bull barrel about a year ago.  Finally got to sight it in this past week, and I must say I am completely satisfied with it.  Did I say this is my first T/C?  Even went out and purchased a .22 and 6.8 SPC 23" barrels to round out the arsenal.  Go for it, you can't go wrong.  T/C has been very good in their customer support, based upon the posts here, and on rimfirecentral.com.

I have factory 23" & 14" Contender barrels.  They will both easily acheive that magical sub MOA thing everybody wants.  That is using the cheap Winchester white box varmint loads or reloads.

I SHOOT 23" BULL FACTORY BARREL  FROM CONTENDER.  I HAVE A VX I LEUPOLD 3X9 ON IT.  IF I DO MY PART IT WILL SHOOT MOA AT 100 YDS. I USE 50g. HORNADY SPXP BULLETS ON GROUND SQUIRRELS AND YOTES.  I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS WITH THE SET UP.
