Ok you Rimfire specialist,
If you had a rimfire scope in a 3-9x32 or a 2-7x28, which reticle would you use: Duplex, Fine Crosshair or Target Dot.

Depends on what I was going to use the gun/scope for. Generally I go for the duplex reticles for hunting. Dots and fine crosshairs are fine when target shooting and you have plenty of time to line up your shot.

If I bought a rimfire scope in that magnification range it would more than likely be for hunting so I'd opt for the duplex.

For hunting purposes I prefer the fine duplex then a dot comes second. I have found that the fine crosshair is really only good on the range shooting targets. Lawdog

Rimfire covers a lot of territory these days. From the .22LR standard velocity to the .22 magnum to the two new .17s from Hornady.
No one scope or reticle covers all those possible uses. For small game I prefer a standard duplex and see no need for more than 6X or 7X on the upper end. If you go over that then I sorta prefer an AO to cure the parallax that seems to creep in with short range shooting.
For the .17 HMR I think a bit more would be nice. I'd like to see a quality scope fixed up like the BSA 17 scope just for this round. With a trajectory compensating dial build in. I've been tempted by the BSA but then I know what usually happens with them. For this round I think a 4-12 or even a 4-16 would be nice.

I like the dot reticle. And a large one at that. If the reticle is 3/4 moa and my gun will shoot 3/4 moa then all the shots will go inside the target where the dot was pointed. This is mostly used for shooting Silhouette. Don
