Got a Gov't. 1911.

It's a Rem/Rand in 90% or better.
Military all the way and not messed with. Probably WWII vintage. How does one 'date' a 1911? By serial #?
It bears F J A marks on the receiver. Any idea what this means.
Anyone have a rough guess what they are worth these days?
Completely original 'cept for the magazine, minor wear and handling marks.
