A more realistic way to look at is to accept the fact that the world changes, and that evolution does not just effect living things.  I'd love it if Jack O'Connor was still alive and writing, but he can't be, and shouldn't be; death is the natural order of things.  Does this mean that life is "disposable" too?  I don't think the Creator quite had that in mind.... :D

PS - I wish that the .25-21 Stevens was still factory loaded too.... :wink:

Please tell me why a professional shooter I know shoots all feral camels with his SMLE No1 MkIII .303 if useful cartridges become obsolete.
I'd say it was decided obsolecence, not evolution.
If rifles were available in Roberts or Savage and they were rammed down the public's throat like the WSM and WSSM cartridges have been they'd sell fine.
But enough debate.
What have you decided to buy, Anthony?

                 Been away for awhile, thanks to all for the responses. I am still looking around, going to wind up with a 257 in the end probably. I lovbe the cartridge.  Anthony

Weatherby or Roberts?
Not that it matters.
Both are excellent depending on your type of hunting.

If you are hunting deer or coyotes, it can be long ranges.   I would take the '06 over the Bob.    The weatherby is an awesome round and a real game hog, but factory bullets cost too darn much.    I love the Roberts for it's history and light recoil, but if I could only have one of the three, it would be the '06.  
No experience with the short mags, but a good neighbor is very happy with his coyote.

I wanted a .25-06 my entire adult life.  I finally got one last year, a Remington 700BDL in that caliber.  I then rushed it off to my gunsmith to have the action glass bedded, the barrel floated and the trigger worked on.  I'm an experieced reloader and bench shooter so I was thrilled to finally get this baby to the range. I have yet to get better than a 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" group with it (5 at 100yds.)  Remington says that's acceptable accuracy.  That gun is no longer cheap and the extra $250. in added costs made it even less so.  I say acceptable accuracy would be .5" to .75" nothing larger.  I won't knock Remington.  I have a gun cabinet full of them from the '70s and '80s, wonderfuly acurate rifles but this one has really put me off my feed.  I won't buy another one.  Sorry for the rant, but I'm not a happy camper at the moment.  Best wishes.

I am sorry to hear about you troublesome 25-06. Unfortunately, it happens to all of us a time or two if you work with alot of rifles. About 6
years ago, I had a heavy barrel Savage 22-250 glass bedded, trigger
tuned & other enhancements only to find that it would not group, very
odd for a Savage, especially a heavy barrel version. Anyway, I posted
on this thread last spring that I would have my Sendero Ackley Improved
& I did. The gunsmith used a precision reamer along with skim bedding,
accurizing the receiver, sq. bolt face & recrown resulted in turning a 1/2-
3/4" gun into a 1/4" gun (3 shot groups) & the already fast barrel is very
fast now in A.I.
Cal, I mention tis because my brother had his Sendero "Ackled" at the
same time. This gun never shot as a Sendero should. The gunsmith
discovered that the chamber was off-centered with the bore a little.
He was able to true it with his floating reamer. This sort of thing should not
happen, but with factory barrels, rarely it does. Now this rifle is a consistant 1/2" gun! I think the gunsmith that did this work is one of the
best anywhere & I feel he could tell you if the chamber or barrel is bad.

Actually Remington states that any of their rifles that shoot groups of 4" or better is within company standards.  Lawdog

I guess that if I ever get the chance, I would have to ask Rem. that if that
is their standard, then why have a standard?

This may be alot of the problem. They are more worried about THEIR
standards than the standards of their customers!

Sounds reasonable to me.  I got the letter from Remington thru my attorney back in 1992 after a 9 plus month battle over a M700 BDL that wouldn't group any better than 4".  I wish I had kept that letter.  Man I would scan it and post it on every bulletin board and forum on the net.  Back in 1992 I never realized that I would be on anything like the internet. Just goes to show you that hindsight is better than foresight.  Lawdog
