Mounting FP sight on buff Classic
« on: October 27, 2005, 02:11:43 PM »
Hi all, I just got the Williams FP sight for my Buff Classic.

Rear hole on the barrel is plugged up with mung. Is this Blue Loc-Tite?

What is the best way to clean the mounting holes? Solvent, heat or pick? Combination of the three?

I don't want to damage the threaded holes obviously.

For what it's worth my FP sight matches up with the two rear most holes on the barrel over the chamber. Is that the norm?

Thanks guys and gals...

Yup, it's loctite....I use a sewing awl and a micro-jet torch to clean em out, just keep digging at it until you can see a shiny bottom to the hole.  Brake cleaner is supposed to disolve loctite, but I've never tried it. The 2 rear holes are the correct position.

i agree with tim but if the threads are still a little gummed up  use a 6-48 bottom tap to clean the threads out. it stops damage to the threads, makes it easer to get the screws in .

I'm just curious with that Lyman sight, what is the max range you can shoot?  They don't look like they have much elevation to them.

Thanks for the help guys.

Will get to it after a quick nap. Started messing with it late yesterday. Broke a simple rule of mine , no monkeying with guns when I'm so tired. Had been up for almost 20 hours by the time I started...  Good thing I wasn't at the reloading bench.

I wonder why they just don't install the .404 lyman front globe ,instead of the ,584
I do like the front globe set-up

That's a good question, with the WGRS standard sight all the way to the top of the ramp, mine was still hitting 8" low at 50yds using the .584" standard front sight!!! Now, with the .404" 17A front sight and the FP rear sight at the bottom position, it's 1-1½" high at 100yds depending on the load, perfect!!!
