Sidekick Iron Sights - Adjustment
« on: October 28, 2005, 03:39:35 PM »
Sighted in the Sidekick today with 2 50-50 pyrodex pellets under a 295 HP Powerbelt.  In order to get the powerbelt to strike 1" high at 50 yards, I have to have the rear site "all the way to the top" of the marked scale.  Anyone else have this issue??  Where are your sights set??

Just my luck to run out of room.

That seems to be normal for the Fire-Sights. Try it with a 460gr conical, mine is beyond the marks. I put a WGRS Peep Sight on mine and it is pretty close to the top with the heavy bullets. H&R/NEF needs to order the rear Fire-Sight with a little higher ramp or a taller slide for the rear sight. Next time I get over to Williams Gun Sight I am going to see if they can hook me up with a taller slide for the rear sight. Where is it hitting at 100 yds with your 1" high sight in?

I use a scope. I sighted my gun in 1" inch high at 50 yards and when I shot at 100 yards I was hitting approximately 6"inched high. So, I would try shooting the gun at 100 yards and see where it's hitting.

That's what I was getting at mangulator, with the heavy conicals mine will hit 1-1/2" high at 50 and about 2-1/2" high at 100 with the peep sight. I left it that way for elk hunting, just sight and shoot out to 125 without having to elevate my aim. Shot my bull at 46yds and it was right across the top of the heart.

I ran out of daylight before I got to the 100 yd range.  I was hoping to find the load about "on" at 100, but from your responses, I might be in for a surprise.  Now if I'm supposed to be even higher at the 50 yard mark, I will definitely run out of ramp room.

Anyone care to make a guess as to where the 295 HP Powerbelt over 100 gr pyro pellets will strike the target, assuming I'm 1" high at 50???

Ok, If we are putting wagers on this my guess is "three inches" high at 100 yards

Plannerman

I was just about to post a question with the same problem.
I pushed my sight to the top of the ramp and am hitting constantly 2 inches low and 2 inches right at 50 yrds.

I still need to adjust my windage (move opposite point of impact?)
Or I may be pulling in anticipation of the boom.

Not sure what to move since a friend (police officer) shot and hit 1.5" dead center high, twice!

He indicated that my shooting reference may be different from his. He is also a trained shot and practices constantly.

A little must be said for shooter variability but in all cases, my shots were low left 2inches consistently! and I am sighting in the gun for myself.

I'm shooting two pyrodex 50/50's with a 250 XPT Horneday HP w/ black mmp sabots.

Any advice on what to do next. I have not attempted a 100 yard shot to date.  My guess is that it would hit lower than at 50 by 1.5 inches Do you guys agree.

Should you raise the rear sight past the last noch mark ?

I apologize for putting my question on your thread but they seemed to apply.

Regards

OK Rugby, here is my suggestion, first you move the rear sight the way you want the bullet to go, if you want the bullet impact to shift to the right, move the rear sight to the right. Get the gun so it is hitting the 2 Inches low it is now but directly below the bullseye. Then shoot a nice relaxed group of 3 shots at 100 yards holding right on the bullseye for each shot, Check where the bullets hit and get back to us. If you do have to move the rear sight a bit higher it's OK as along as the blade is secure on the sight base....Good Luck and let us know how things work out....<><....

yes, what MSP Ret said.  Same advice here, move the ramp where the shot needs to go.

You're not alone on hitting different points of impact with different shooters.  Several of my buddies use my "dead eye and calm nerves" for verifying their rifle sites.  Seems a lot of shooters, and don't take this the wrong way, are skittish and it shows when they pull the trigger.  My guess is if you're right handed, you're pulling the shot down and to the right.  Try seating both the forend and buttstock firmly in sandbags.  Use only enough contact to snug your shoulder on the butt, and keep a relaxed hold on the grip and squeeeeezzzzeee the trigger.

Let us know your 100 yd results.
