Anyone have any ideas as to how to clean up the trigger pull on the above. Right now it it breaks at 7 lbs 9 oz. I'd like to get it down to 3 lbs.

I have a pair of them and what I did is put a lighter spring in them. They break about 3lbs.

Where did you get the springs. I'm looking for a set for Rem 788 as well as a Ruger Mark II.

There used to be instructions over on Go Go Varmint Go in the tech section on how to set these up. Since it's the same trigger as the 541 without the adjustment screws, it's no big deal to add them and have a nice fully adjustable trigger. You can do this to the 788 as well. If you're not familiar with doing trigger work, see if you can find someone who is - you don't want to mess it up since they aren't available anymore.

I sent my trigger to a fellow in Iowa along with a $40 check and it came back with a 12oz pull. it passed all the safety checks. now I have very few fliers. if anybody wants the info on him just send me a pm. I have his e-mail and snail-mail addresses.

I actually got my springs from my gunsmith, I got them for my pair of 581s and also got them for my pair of 788s. He cut them for me from spring stock that I believe he got from Brownells. What you want to do is make them the same length as the original spring just of a lighter stock. You can use ball point pen springs or springs out of Bic lighters. Also you want them to be the same diameter or close to it. I just put Timney triggers in my Ruger 77s and was over with it. Timney keeps saying they are bringing out a trigger for the 788 which would also fit the 581 but it has been over two years since they originally said that.

I had a 580 that I reduced the pull to 2 lbs on by just grinding the end off the spring that was in it. It was a pain to keep assembling and disassembling the bolt, but I just kept grinding until the pull was safe and where I wanted it. Won alot of silhouette trophies with that one.

I must point out that shortening the length of any extension spring is a reeally poor idea. I the trigger fails to resett at some later date there is a strong likelyhood of an AD. The lighter wire spring is the best approach,.
