Matching nipples and caps
« on: November 14, 2005, 11:47:12 AM »
I just got my new Ruger Old Army today. My son was drooling all over it and wanted to shoot it right away. I couldn't commit to that as I have to much to do right now but I did agree to popping a few caps. I know the proper size cap is sometime hard to find but I lucked out first time. The choice was between some old DGW caps and some RWS I had on hand. The DGW caps were a perfect fit. The only problem is after popping the caps with no powder charge behind them to split the caps they are really hard to get off.

I had the identical situation come up lately. Had some really old DGW #11 perc. caps and tried to dry fire a few. Some of them were impotent because of their age, and I needed to remove them.

Use some long nose plyers, grab the cap from the rear and remove with a twisting motion.
