Holiday Shootout
« on: November 25, 2005, 11:40:58 AM »
Today was one of those great days that you wish would never end.

My son and I took our airguns up to the nearby national forest and spent the whole day shooting our new guns.  We were just getting back into airguns when Katrina hit Louisiana and took my house, furniture, and a bunch of other "stuff".  Unfortunately the "stuff" included some good airguns.  My son lives in Florida where we are visiting for the holidays.  He ordered a RWS 94, Fast Deer and a B-4 in .17 and a Crossman 2240 in .22.  I ordered a RWS 350 and Crosman 2240 in .22, RWS 94, TF97, Fast Deer and a Benjuman 397 in .17, a Beta Chrony and we both ordered a sack full of mounts and scopes.

Today we sighted in the guns and slayed many targets, tin cans, water bottles, pine cones and numerous other targets of opportunity.  The RWS 94's are awsome and extremely accurate.  The TF 97 turned out to be accurate as well.  The 2240's are great plinkers and we even enjoyed pumping the Benjaman which was also great fun.  Both of the Fast Deers have bent barrels and could not be sighted in using scopes, so now I guess I have to learn how to bend barrels.  The 350 still hasn't arrived, but that is another story (I ordered it in early August).  We never got to the B-4 and did not crony anything - just having fun.  What a great day!!

Hope you have a great holiday weekend too.

Jim

Do you mean barrel droop which is common to RWS. A proper mount should get you on target. I've use the C mount which did work after a lot of effort even though I don't recommend it.
I'm sure someone else will have some suggestions about which mount is better.

Ed,

No problem with my RWS rifles.  The problem is with my two Fast Deers.  As you know, they are not break barrels but they do have a very distinct  dowonward bend (droop?) - so much so that the scopes could not be sighted in.  I was on Charlie da Tuna's website last night and found out that this is not uncomon.  Charlie also provides a techniqe to fix the problem, so one of these days I will get around to it.  It seems to me that straightening the barrel is a better fix.  Am I wrong?

Regards,

Jim

Adjustable mounts will cure this problem.  Lawdog

Thanks Lawdog, I might try it, but what mount?  I doubt there is room for a one piece adjustable mount like the Beemen 4039 as the scope rail is very short.  Got any suggestions??

Thanks,

Jim

Yeah, try the RWS Two Piece C-Mount, item number 230 0575.  Go to http://www.dnrws.com/misc.html to see them.  Lawdog

Lawdog,

Thanks.  I will try one.  The only source I have found is Straight Shotters.  Guess one is enough though......
