I just picked up a "like new" MK 85 .50 caliber and promptly converted it to a 209 ignition system.
I sure would appreciate some load data for it.
I will be shooting alot of paper and perhaps a few Whitetail deer with it.

what kind of data do you want RV?

i can copy some of the data from the knight rifle manuals that i have at home if you would like and send it to you.i will look that info up in the morning for you RV.

I would start with the .430 Hornady XTP in either .240 or .300 gr...with
80-100 grs Pyrodex or Goex...If that didn't work go with the .451 Hornady XTP in 250 or 300...all of these bullets preformed well in the MK-85s...and bought in bulk are fairly cheap...If you don't find a good combo with any of these you can start trying the more expensive bullets...ie the Hornady SSTs (T/C Shockwaves) in 250 and 300...the Barnes coppers in 250 or 300 or the Powerbelts....I tend to start with the bulk Hornadys because they are cheaper...Any of these bullets with 90-100 grs Pyrodex RS will be deadly out to about 150 yards...the Hornady SST design is more aerodynamic if you tend to have shots over 100yds...Good Luck

LyleK...Yep it sure will, one of my buddies used a 300 .451 Hornady XTP with a black standard MMP .451 sabot and 100 grs Pyrodex for several years...In his Wolverine...

My load is 80 grs of FFFg 777 with a 250 gr Hornady SST. One deer down with it so far. Good groups and clean kill on the buck.
Last year I was using 300 gr Speer .429 softpoints over 100 grs of FFFg Elephant BP. That worked well but wasn't as accurate.

I would suggest you try some .451 cal Noslers (250 gr. JHP) with black MMP or Nosler sabots over 100 grains of Pyrodex or equivalent. Check your 3 shot groups and then try various amounts of powder (go up and down in 10 grain increments) until you find the most accurate load. Hint: try to seat your bullet on the powder with the same consistent amount of pressure (25-30 lbs).
