Have you seen this months Shooting Times ? It has a article about the style of gun you are talking about. This guy shot a 2 and 3/4 inch group at 600yds with a fancied up AR in 204 Ruber cal.  I don't know much about these guns except that hey cost big bucks.  I don't know if a 20 cal bullets would kill a coyote at that range 600 yds with less than a perfect shot though both lungs. I guess you could pull it of if you had a really good rest and knew  to the yard how far he was and had the wind doped right to.  Most of the coyotes around here aren't going to sit around and let you fool around that much.  Most of the varmint calling shots here in Ill or going to be under 200 yds and most of them are are 100 and less. But I sit will carry my 220 swift just in case. Good luck with your new gun. Let us know how it does.

Hi Swiftman I dont think i would be shooting the 223 or the 204 at 600 yrds . The 204 is fast BUT i will take a 220 S or a 22 250 any day over the 204. Some of my freinds have the 204 i will stick too my 22 250. I am sure it is a good cal. But i am not a big fan of it. VM

Most of the guys I know use 55grn intheir 22 cal for coyote for alittle better penitration. My one friend loaded some speer 70 grn semi sptz in his swift they shot about a half inch at 100yds but the fps was not that good. He did shoot one coyote with one. The shot was alittle far back. but he was tripping over his intestanes trying to run of , big exit hole.  Don't  see as many coyotes around here the last few years and they don't stop and look back when you stop your truck.  I saw one in our field last year I was on the road on the tractor. He was about 300yds so I went on to the house since my swift was in my truck. I drove back up there he was still there but the instance I took my foot of the gas and started to slow down he went into full after burner. I went down the grass lane at full speed to get down to where he was. He had alresdy crossed the lane and was amost a quarted mile away by the time I got stopped and got out and got my rifle out of its case. He then disapeared in a depression . The next time I saw him he was at a half mile and still running fullbore. They don't stop and look back like they use to. He had aparrently played the game before.
I varmint call up here. but  never called very many out across large open ground.   Try to find small fields with woods and fence rows around them and in the woods where We can see  them coming.
I was out a few years ago back in a 5 acre field with woods on three sides and looking for a good place to set up. I just happen to look up and there was a coyote standing about 70 yds away looking across the field but not in my direction, So I just laid down in the 6 inch grass I was standing in and shot him. How he never spotted me move Ill never know just lucky I guess.
Its finally starting to cool off up here, our bow deer season came inthe first of Oct. but its been to hot to hunt and have to finish heiping my brother getting crops out.

I loaded up some 55grn combined tech bulllets  with 39grn 4064 for my swift but have not got to try them out yet. May next weekend. Mt brother loaded some up in his new TR100 rem 22-250 don't remeber what powder they shot into one little raggrd hole at 100 yards. We have an open season on coyote here, but it is grown up so much here that you can't see much in the summertime, plus I an not much on killing something that has young ones waiting at home even a coyote.  got to leave alittle seed.

I am the same way. I dont want to kill a female coyote and she has pups in the den. I hate them but not that much. I use Varget powder in my 22 250 . I have been thinking about turning it into a 22 250 AI to get a little more speed out of it . :D VM

I don't shoot my swift as much as I would lke because it has alot of rounds though it and trying to save what it has left for serious buisness like varmints.  I don't know what it would cost to get a new good barrel screwed onto it but not too cheap. A good barrel would probably cost around $300 I would guess, plus getting it put on by some one who knows what they are doing.   All I ever have shot though it is sierra 55gnr sptbt and 39 grn 4064, I have never found any other load that would out shoot it., and never have lost any coyote ever hit with it.
I have a rem 700 30-06 that I may try some 150 nosler bullistic tips in. all I have loaded for it is sierra 165grnspbt I figure these will handed about anything I will ever need it for, but just want to try a lighter bullet to see how they shoot. Its not a varmint gun though it only has a 4 power nikon on it but will handle anythig I will ever need a 30 cal bullet for.  I only gave $235 for it new at Wal Mart they had it on clearance at that price, and I figured if they were dumb enough to sell it for that I was smart enough to buy it.

Hey swiftman i have found 2 loads for my 22 250. The one i like the most is 36.5grs of varget 55gr BT and win brass i have it sighted in 2 inch high @ a 100 yrds. And i reload the Hornady 50gr SXSP 36.5 grs of varget and i can shoot it and it will be a 1 inch high @ 100yds lol that works for me. I dont know how i work out to have 2 loads shoot like that. I have a Rem 700 300 wby BDL SS DM i load 125gr BT for it. The only bullet i use is a BT and a few SXSP bullets. I load almost all BT for all of my rifles. I got 400 bullets for my 25 06 in 85gr to try out VM

I may get to shoot sometime this weekend ,but a friend of mines dad died today so will need to see to him first.  I was wanting to go down to my brothers and stay in the cabin we have back in the woods behind his friends house, but not this weekend I guess. We have two rooms on it now and are working on a third to put the wood burning cook stove in that his friend bought.  I have a vacation starting the 23 and hoping for time and good bow hunting weather, But if I don't kill one it is not a big deal anymore just glad to be out there with just the woods and the critters and me with the celphone OFF.
Have you got your new gun yet???

I only carry my swift if I am going to be here in Ill. or going out to the farm, or varmint calling. The only fire arm I have in my truck when I go east to work in Terre Haute is my sks with a litlle ammo to get me home in case someone drops the big one while I am over there and some idiot thinks he is going to keep me from crossing the wabash river so I can get back home with my family. Our first deer gun season always starts around the weekend  close to the 17th of nov. Usually can get in some good bow hunting before then because the deer start moving pretty good the week before that if the weather is not too hot.  We had a earth quake drill a few weeks ago at work. We are suppose to gather in a certian spot in the parking lot. I told them that if it was a bad one i was not going to be standing around in their parking lot, I was going to be getting my behind back to Ill as fast as possilbe if there is any way possible may have to swim the river with my spare tire but I will be going if I am not dead.
I shot a freind of mines Tikkia 300 win mag a few weeks ago off sand bags it was not to bad. A little more zip than my 30-06. He said it would hurt some though if you got up in to the 200grn bullets. The biggest bottle neck cartrige I have ever shot was a friend of mines 375 H&H model 70 win africain. I was kneeling down shooting over a horizontail oil drum so I was soaking it all up. About 3 of them was all I wanted in that position.
I put a differnt scope on my 541S rem 22 this summer that is perllexed adjustible from 10yds on out made a big differnce in group size in rimfire range. It will make one little ragged hole at 25 to 30 yds.  But they won't group well at 100 yds.  I would have to try a differnt round out at that range the remington golden hp won't cut it out there. but they will kill apples at 80 yds.
What do you hunt with your 300 wby?  The only thing we could use it for here in Ill. would be coyote , ground hog,  paper or the neghbors cat as long as they don't find out about the cat, but would not be much left to find after being hit with one of those I would suppose.  The great city of chicago should be made into a differnt state so they would go away and leave the rest of use with some common sence alone.  Mayor Dayley of chicago seems to think that if all of us in the sticks give up our right to bear arms that they some how  will be safer in chicago.
I saw on one of the other sights on graybeard about a guy seeing a coyote in a tree about 5 ft of the ground. I saw one alot higher than that once. we were  coyote hunting south of town one winter with dogs and surrounded a section with trucks. The dogs were out of sight out in the section along one of the larger streams in this area. They were not moving so a friend and I drove around  to where we could walk  down the hill to the crick where the dogs were. We got to where we could see the dogs about 60 yds away when my freind said ther was a coyote in the tree by use abiut 15 yds away. I am thinking yea right. then I looked up and saw a coyote come down a dead tree thet had fallen over into the top of another tree. I missed him though because I did not alowe for him going  down.  The dogs could not find him because he had come up the frozen ice on the crick and they could not track him to the tree.

When ever someone asks what varmint cartrige to buy I always tell them 22-250 . For varmint up to  an including coyote there is nothing better for most beginners around this part of the country.  It will do anything you ask of it. And you can find shells for it anywhere.  The 6mm are a little better killers on coyote but dead is dead it may just take a extra second or two , and it's recoil is minmial for the result you get.  The cost of the shells are more than a 223 but it is worth it as far as I am concerned.  If you are not into reloading it is the only way to go.

Hi i like the 22 250 and i would like to have a 6mm. But i started to get a 243 and i got a 25 06 in it's place shooting 85gr BT out of it. I like the 223 it is a 300 yrd gun and under on coyotes. I reload for my 300 wby 125gr BT that will make a hole. The 223 is fun to shoot and cheap too. VM

I shot the combined tech 55grn 39 grn 4064 through my swift friday shot one fouling shot it went about 1 inch above then put 3 into 11/16th outside spread then pulled the last left abiut 3/8th an inch I new it was when I let it go. I then shot same bullet with h380 It shot into a verticl string of about an inch and a quarter. I never  had  shot h380 through it before and it did not like it. It took about 6 rounds of my old load before it came back in. I shot a 11/16 out side spread 3 shot group with my old load.  The very first shots I ever fired through this gun went ino an 1/2 inch I am supprised it will still shoot this well after all the rounds it has had put through it.  I will probably go to the ct 55grn in swift and load the siera 55 grn in my 223 if it will shoot them. My 223 handi rifle will shoot blackhills 55grn sx hornady under a inch but they don't even make this bullet anymore so will have to try my sierra's.  hopefully they will shoot into minute of coyote out to 250yds.
I have not even seen a coyote yet this fall just hear them at night once and a while.  There are not that many around anymore or they are alot smarter than they use to be. Had my handi rifle in combine but never saw any varmints.  I saw a hawk at around 350yds killing something out in the nieghbors bean stubble probable a rabbit but can't kill them anymore.
I drove back to the spot I bow hunt at the other evening about 40 minutes before sunset ,I saw four does and two small bucks in the cornstalks and bean stubble.
I just got a call from some group doing a media study, saying they had called the other eveinig and I hung up on her just like I  did  the other evening. HA HA
I saw on  another thread here where a guy had shot groups under 3/4 inch at 200yds with a 10 inch 222 contender,  that is hard for me to belive but I guess that some guns and guys out there can do it. I never have been aroud any pistols that would do that.  My brother say that one of his freinds down there has a 44 mag contender that will shoot into an inch at 100yds.  I shoot a pistol some but not enough to do that. If I kill one at 50yds with my 4.5 inch 45 colt ruger black hawk I would feel pretty good about it.  I would not even try much farther than that with my open sights. I will probably take my black hawk varmint calling in case I sucker one in close enough to use it on one and have something behind it stop that big bullet because he won't.
It is starting to feel like deer hunting weather up here know.
Did you get hit by the hurracanes where you are at?

I have had a variety of varmit rifles in the past 30 years, from 22mag/17
HMR through 22 cal centerfires, 6mm, .25, all the way up to .300 Wea. (a
bit much!!!). The varmiters that I have fired the most are various .223's,
the mighty Swift & 22-250. I still have a Rem. 22-250 VSS that is quite good.

But, like you have just decided to do, back at the first of the year, I bought an AR, in my case the RRA 24" Var. with Wilson air-guaged stainless barrel & match trigger. This is hands down my favorite varmit rifle & I have owned many good Varmiters. This rifle will shoot 69 Grain
Match Kings, 75 Gr. Horn., 77 Gr. Sierra Match Kings & 60 Gr. Hor. V-Max
into 1/2" 5 shot groups with dull regularity. It will do near this with a couple of 55 Gr. loads. A better P. Dog gun does not exist because you can engage multiple targets without losing your sight picture. The same
principle is involved with called in Predators & yet it has the precision needed for long range Groundhog shots.

Yes, my 22-250 see's little action as the AR handles all Varmits out to
400 yards & then my 25-06 AI with the 125GR Wildcat ULD bullets takes over for over 400  shots or in high winds making shots that can't be done
with a conventional twist 22-250.

Good luck with your AR!

One of the first reports I heard on that Bushmaster claimed under 1" 100yd groups with four diff brands of factory ammo.
Sounds like it is going to be fun.

A friend of mine just bought a Bushy Varmiter & we are looking for the right load. I can already tell you, though it shoots well. The RRA & the
Bushy each have their advantages, I like the RRA barrel more, but it is
heavier & some don"t like that. RRA guarrantee's 3/4" groups & that swayed me but both are great!

I also like the way the Bushy looks & it is a little lighter also. My choice
boiled down to the barrel. I like the Stainless use in the RRA & usually you
have a little more accuracy potential with these barrels, however the
Bushy is shooting very well indeed.

varmit_master, I live South of Pocahontas, Ar., about 40 miles from
Jonesboro & 50 miles from Batesville. If you aren't too far from here maybe we could do a little shooting! In my job I cover an area from Memphis to Mountain Home.

So, VM, have you got the Bushy in hand ... and have you tried it out?  Since you're the Varmint Master, I'm a little suprised you didn't go with one of the Bushy 24-inchers ... Varminteer or whatever. What made you decide on the 20-inch? Just curious.

Watching Bryon South predator hunting dvd's that is what he uses. Plus the V-Match with a 20 inch barrel fluted is lighter than the 24 inch varminter dont have have a chrome line barrel like the 20 inch one does. I like the looks and the feel of the V-Match rifle. Over the Varminter one. My bushmaster is still on order. When i first order it they said it would be 6 to 8 weeks before i got it. VM :D
