Turkeys seem to be everywhere in PA this year. I went out the other day to a new spot that ran along some powerlines.; hunting fox squirrel but thinking maybe a turkey also. Bunch of wild grape growing in there. Got to the top of the mountain, and said to myself,"dang, this looks like a turkey spot". Fifteen minutes later heard a whole bunch of yelping and about 20 hens came by about 75-80 yds away. Selected the 22 Hornet barrel on my trusty, old Savage 24V and took a hen that looked particularly tasty. She dropped in her tracks with the bullet hitting her in the throat, just above the body/throat juncture. The Hornet with a Speer 46 gr flatnose behind 4.2 grs of Unique(a little over 1500 fps) is my ultimate small game/turkey round out to around 100 yds. Cleaned/plucked the bird out in the woods, and stayed and collected 4 fox squirrels and two grays. Right near sundown the flock came flying back up the mountain to roost, and a little later a huge Gobbler came strutting past. Put the sights on him and whispered "bang". Nice day.
