Need ideas

I have never owned or shot a NEF Handirifle but I really like the looks of them. I am thinking of picking one up. I hunt mule deer and do some back country hunting where we go in with backpacks for several days. I am thinking a Handirifle would be great to save weight. What caliber would be good for a medium/long distant mule deer gun. Long for me is 350-400 yards. I am leaning toward a 280 rem as I had a bolt action in this caliber years ago that I really loved. Any sugestions? Will a Hadirifle serve this purpose as a lightweight backpacking gun?

The 280 will serve you well.....you'll need to handload to get the most from it...but will worth the effort..

Don't think you would go wrong with a .280 Handi.  It gets my vote too.

The rifles will serve you well no matter what you get, but I doubt you will save any weight, they are kind of heavy rifles, I don't think you can get a scoped handi under about 7.5 pounds very easily.  Larry
A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.
