GLOBAL WARMING

I am just one of the many nonuthins that lurk this site but I have been reading, from other sources, of the changing global conditions that is affecting Alaska,
Some o the reports of the loss of the perma frost is becoming more than just reports from alarmist.
Is this situation becoming as dangerous as some reports I have seen?

I can't honestly say, but it's about -5*F right now.  Fairbanks is down to 20 below.

There's no question that some of our glaciers are receding, but how much is cyclical change and how much is caused by pollution is anybody's guess.

I spend quite a bit of time east of the Copper River and west of Yakutat.  It could be 100*F for everyday of the year for 100 years and not melt all that ice around the Bagley Icefield, Seward Icefield, Bering Glacier and Malaspina areas.

Remember, the last ice age was several thousand years ago and the earth has been warming ever since.

I spent some time at Cape Yakataga White Alice site in 1969 and 1973.  That would fit the description you give!  I sure liked it.  Some day I may even get back there.  Friend of mine says it has really changed though, that the State has been logging pretty heavily.  A pitty!

Yep, the Cape fits that description pretty well and I've spent a lot of time there.  There has been a lot of logging in that area, but everything is greening back up very nicely.  Natural regen is amazing along the "Lost Coast".  Still a lot of bears, goats and moose along that stretch.  I'd say the biggest change is the permanent hunting/fishing camps along the Tsiu, Seal, and other rivers between Cape Suckling and Cape Yakataga.  Seems we can be our own worst enemy sometimes.

Let's hear it for global warming!!!!!!!!!  Where is it?  It's 30 below in my front yard as I speak.  I could stand a little global warming right now.  That straight temp too, No chill factor in it.

We are having one of our coldest Novembers on record here.  DOwn to 5-10 degrees at night, 60-70 mph winds.  Water has frozen up twice so far.

It is usually in the 30's here at this time.

Although it's been rather "warm" around NP/Fairbanks for this time of year we have no more liquid water - much to the chagrin of my Newfoundland dog!  :?

Pretty wicked cold down here in Bama too. Heck this morning I had to put on my long pants and a pair of house shoes when I went out to sit on the front porch to drink my morning coffee and watch the critters. Only needed a t-shirt on top tho. Last night before I turned in it was warm enough for bare feet, shorts and t-shirt. Brrr them cold nights sure make it tough on an old man in the morning drinking his coffee on the porch.  :-D  :D

Oh BTW it's 84 out now at 4:00 PM.  :lol: Dang cold fronts.  :roll:

Well now, lets hear it form those such as myownself who are not man enough to take the temperature extremes you folks up north take.
By up north I am speaking of any place that gets below 70 degrees, which includes my place, as I would dearly love to live father south. The Hen, but, the Hen, will not leave the brood--and, well, I must confess that I concur. Now if I could just covince them to move father south with me, but alas.
How much would the weather have to change to affect the permafrost layer? Cannot be much, from what I read, but I do not know.
Goin out on the back porch now for a cig and some black. The Hen has gone to San Antonio but she has got me so henpecked I still will not smoke in tha house. Temp is about 75 degrees, so I will not need more than a light jacket. :wink:
