Grip Fit on N.M. Blackhawk
« on: November 20, 2005, 12:27:21 PM »
Are the grips on these revolvers handfitted to each frame?  I bought a set of original grips to replace some aftermarket jobs on the Blackhawk I purchased recently.  They fit well except on the front strap.   Still perfectly useable but I was wondering if they were ever intended to fit any frame.

Just like the grip frames, the grips are mass produced.  With any mass produced item, there's going to be differences.  The grip panels are not fit individually to each rip frame.  With the number produced, it would be a loooong time for all that extra work.

The grips on my brother's Bisley single six fit very poorly, something I will remedy this winter with a piece of cherry wood. . .

I can't see by the picture where they don't fit the frame.
Nice looking set of grips I wish mine looked that good.

Well, I brought that picture up to full size, and, Whoa!  Those grips weren't meant for that model firearm.  Phone Ruger with your serial number, and ask them which grips you're supposed to be using on your revolver.

The Blackhawk pictured is a first year of production New Model.   It uses the XR3RED grip frame.  The "shiny eagle" grips would be correct for this revolver, so I was hopeful that these grips would fit well.  Just not lucky I suppose.

I work part time at a gunshop, and we recently took an early New Model in on trade....I was interested to see that the grip fit wasn't any better on that one either!

I'll just have to keep trying, or maybe contact Ruger as suggested.

Great revolver though!
