It has been extremely warm this season so far, but lots of big bucks seem to have been taken. We finally got a cold front and now the temps are more seasonal. My hunting partner took followed the front down and took a 6 x 7 last night. I will try to post a photo when I can.
I am headed back to Leon Co. with the kids today for another try with my 10 year old.

Now it has been many years since I hunted ANYTHING but I have never experienced much fortune when the weather was unseasonally warm, especially in afternoon hunts.
I would wait until the first freeze before venturing out-unless- and there have been occasions-it appeared there would not be a freeze for most of the season.
Course hunting when it is warm is more comfortable.

The weather finally cooled off and those Leon Co. bucks were really checking the does. Lots of deer spotted and my son killed his first buck.
He had taken 4 does over the past 3 years, but he really got shook up over the small buck's horns! Especially after the shot. The young buck had a tiny rack which apparently been injured in velvet and developed 2 extra points for a total of 10. Not a trophy to most, but a super deer to he and I.
I will be headed to my lease on Thursday pm and hopefully spot a mature buck.

My brother-in-law and his son went opening day and had success. Jim is pretty picky and let a 10 pointer go by because he said it was about 3/4 yrs old and wanted to let it mature, John let mature about 10 minutes when he harvested the buck.
Jim said it was a fine buck and the spread was very good looking.
Jim bought the place three years ago and said it had been ravaged by former leasers who shot it out. The place is only about 100 acres but it is bounded by a number of larger spreads that do nothing more than family hunts.
he said his attempt is to bring back the herd and said he was pleased with the results of his attempts too this point.
Jim has not shot a buck since 1979, says he just talks himself out of it but enjoys tha looking and seeing the results of his attempts.

Well, we found a mature buck. My wife, hunting with me, killed him and he is a dandy. 10 point, 145 ", 18 inside and 160 lbs dressed.
Low fenced, small ranch with much surrounding hunting pressure.
I feel lucky and proud of the wife.
