44 magnum or 45-70?

One word of warning.  They returned my new .223 barrel with only an extractor - NO EJECTOR.  They claim that this is the wave of the future.  Now I have to reach under the scope and over the hammer with two finger nails to get the case out.  Bad News.

No claim about it, it's a fact!! It's not hard to get that spent case out, just point the barrel up and it will fall right out in your waiting hand if you're inclined to keep em..... I know it's a new trick for an old dog sorta thing, but get over it, it's for the better in the long run.  It sure beats a stuck case when you least want it.  :eek:

I sent my Handi off to get the 45-70 barrel installed.  I will let you guys know how it turns out.  Thanks so much for the info.  Now I just have to find the perfect bullet and load.

You made a fine choice, but ya know, it doesn't hurt to have both, but a man has to have priorities!! :lol:

HT25;
I have both barrels.
Neither one is bad for me to shoot, until, with the .45-70, the 405 goes above 1900fps and the 515 goes past 1650fps.
The 320 at 2000 is fine, just do not want a bunch of shots at the bench, but off hand is not bad.
The .44mag. is a slight problem at the bench with 310 bullets at 1400fps, but not offhand.
I am 65 years old, have had both shoulders damaged, a 3 1/2 hr complete rebuild of left rotator cuff ,and do not like recoil .
Yet the Handirifle , with the factory pad, does not get bad until things get really fast.
I cannot stand a 12ga, 2 3/4" high velocity shotgun shell , even with a pad.
If you reload,the obvious choice is the .45-70, much better selection of molds, bullets and powders.
