how many here just but a whole gun instead of new barrels

I had a contender years ago, trade up for the encore, had 5 barrels problems started when I decided to get an extra frame, one was tight the other loose.  I unloaded them all, and went with the handi rifle.  I have a 280 elk foundation, a 20 gauge rifled model and waiting on the 44 magnum I won at auction.  The 20 gauge look new and I purchased it for 125.00 at a local shop, I got the 44 magnum for 175.00 total cost.  Thought of getting a 12 smooth bore and a 45-70, with barrels and scope mount and shipping cost would be 152.00 a little extra and I don't have to switch frames. the two guns can be had for about 269.00 frame and all

Complete rifle is nearly as cheep as all the things combined to get a barrel. I did get my 10 ga. with a slug barrel also.

I have done both.  I now have ten complete rifles, and seve extra barrels.  Some of my barrels were bought used, some factory fitted.  I do admit, though, that it is a pain to keep up with which barrel fits which frame and go thru the change over just to shoot a bit.  I've probably bought my last extra barrel, unless of course someone has a 35 Whelen barrel lying around collecting dust that they want to part with.

I almost bought another complete rifle....but mine was already in the shop so i just got 2 extra barrels :-D .........I still want the 17 hmr and for that i HAFTA get a complete rifle

i agree i useto do the barrel deal when it was cheap ,anymore used rifles or new , just as easy and as cheap

I always look for those rarer Handi's whenever I'm out...but recently I just have deceided to go for the barrels....namely to have them made into something different...or just longer....

When I got my first Handi, my PLAN was to get a buncha barrels.  Didn't work out that way.  As it stands, it's a 1:1 ratio of frames to barrels.  5 complete guns.  I don't like messing with switching out AFTER purchase, not to mention the hassle of sending the frame in at purchase.  Just getting another rifle is worth the extra $120-$140 for the extra frame, to me.

I had several extra barrels but had the chance to buy some recievers and have fitted most of my barrels. I have also bought some cheaper used rifles and sold the barrel that I didn't need and fitted my extras to the reciever...Now I have more complete rifles and shotguns than extra barrels...

I have a BC but was thginking about getting another barrel or another rifle. Sounds as if you guys have worked it out by buying complete rifles.

i like the old style actions<no transfer bar> .<lower hammer>so i have 6 actions 5 old style 1 new....3 357 max barrels 1 445 barrel 4 12 ga barrels 1 20 ga barrel just sold 16 ga barrel 1 762 25 barrel 1 50 huntsman..3 54 cal and a 72 cal in the ft stuffers all are a little differant in 1 way or another    thats the ones i can think of right now....althow a 9 mm barrel maybe in the plans????jb

So far I have just bought the complete rifles.  But I only have the 223 Ultra and the 22 mag Ultra.  When I buy another it will be the complete rifle.

I also went thru a phase of buying extra barrels. Then decided it wasn't worth the changing, which barrel went with which action?, will my point of impact change? issues. Now have everything mounted on actions except some shotgun barrels. As someone has pointed out, some of us don't seem to have the "handi sense" or desire to deal with all these little time consuming/tinkering/cobbling issues. I have problems finding enough shooting/hunting time as it is. Might be different if I was retired and didn't travel for a living.

I got rid of all my exta barrels and would rather have the complete gun. Each to his own.
