okay, willing to try once more....

as many of you know I have had no good experiences with NEF's. BUT..i'm willing to give them one more chance, and that is if and only if I can find one chambered in .444 (NEF is the only one that has ever made a .444 single that I know of). What would you do? search until you find a factory chambered .444 OR buy a used .44 and hope for good accuracy and have it re-chambered? I'd like to find a factory chambered gun 'cuz it'd be cheaper. If I have a .44 mag that has marginal accuracy would re-chambering it to .444 marlin straighten it out? I don't really want a 445 supermag, as from what I can see it'd be a waste of my time and money, JMHO. You all probly don't like me no more as I don't particularly like NEF's, but oh well...

Well...no one here said they didn't like you...and wanting a 444 is something quite a few of us here want as well...The are getting quite scarce these days..as you know...so..even though you want a 444...might I suggest you try you luck with a 45-70?..I think you would find out just how sweet these little rifles truely are if you do...Rechambering a marginal rifle isn't going to make it any better..since there are no gaurentee's of the work..and reboring and rechambering is pretty expensive any how...even if your just wanting to shoot cast bullets..you'll find plenty to choose from...and if & when your ready to load it up ...you'll have one capable of doing just that...

You speak of this kind of 444 single shot:

Now I've got my NEF 45-70 !, still not tried.

hey pard
mac is right
try a 45-70 i have tried several different handis here and i guess most of us have
but none of the guns i have owned so far can out shoot my buffalo classic
would be a mistake imho to give up on handis before trying one in 45-70

SSS;If the bore on your 44 is .429 and not .432 like everone else's,you could rechamber to 444 very easy. But if you're looking for a accurate barrel the 45 70 would be your best gamble. The 445 sm is very close to the 444 with the 265 gr. bullet(2146 fps vs. 2275 fps in my Marlin) I think the 45 70 is probably the most accurate though.  Digger

Hey guys thanks for the replies.
pascalp, I love the looks of the encore, VERY nice. I was thinking of getting one of them but I personally think they are overpriced. Is it for sale? I like the looks of the katahadin carbine with the synthetic, but It looks even better with wood.

thanks
