just curious if you guys  wanted to see  a few pictures of captures from video of a guy riding a  cannon (when fired), the pics are not the greatest but neither was the video in the early 80's?? i know it's the real deal ....cause i was there!

Like I said, I in no way encourage actions like this and would have tried to talk him out of it, but i was 8 years old  when he was doing this, luckily he is older and wiser now (not counting the installation of prolonge hooks) my dad has givin up this form of entertainment!

In this photo the frames per sec  just cought the vent flash before the cannon fired sorry could not be better resolution, he was at a Mt. Man rendezvous (he is in full period dress) in the early 80's when he was doing this. oh by the way this cannon was loaded with 1# of powder.

This wouldn't be the first time that this was done.  I read of a cannoneer during one of the battles of the War for Southern Independence who got tried of rolling the gun back into battery and decided to hold onto the handspike to dampen the recoil.  He got a very nasty surprise if you know what I mean.

Maybe I read about the story of the cannoneer who did with rather unpleasant results and that dissuaded me from even considering it.   I don't even straddle the trail while sighting.

Like when the first American soldiers in WWII fired a Japanese "Knee Mortar".

The phrase "ya gotta be tough if you're stupid" comes to mind.

Then too, I have posted pictures of my hand-held golf-ball mortars in use!
