Question on optics and balistics for beginner
« on: November 15, 2005, 06:03:18 AM »
Hi,

I just sighted in my 30.06/scope with 150gr. bullets. It hits dead on at 100yrds.  At the 100yrd point, is the bullet rising or falling?

Must I aim high at shots closer than 100 and aim low at shots further than 100?

Thanks.

at ranges less than 100 it might be a hair high, but who cares.  One inch makes almost no difference.  After that (100) it's going to be hitting lower as you fall off the curve.

The bullet truly starts dropping as soon as it leaves the muzzle. The point of aim vs point of impact is what you are relating to. At 50 yards your bullet should hit a little high in relation to the point of aim. Beyond 100 yards your point of impact will be lower compared to the point of aim. For ranges  of 0-150 yards I'd aim dead on.
