Stevens 200 .308 Range report update
« on: January 31, 2006, 05:41:37 PM »
Got back out a second time with a few different loads for the new Stevens.

This time I tried some 150 gr. Hornady SST's over 43gr. of Varget, and some Hornady 110 grain over 39 grains of IMR 4198.

The SST's grouped very well at 100 yards. I shot 10 rounds and all were essentially touching each other about 2" above the bullseye. However, at 200 yards I was getting a good 14"drop from center and the bullet was drifting about 2"left of center. I think I need to load a few more grains of Varget and get the velocity up a bit closer to the maximum and see how they group.

The 110 grain Hornady's were loaded at near max for the 4198 load. They grouped very nicely at 100 yards. I only loaded 5 rounds of these so I did not shoot any at the 200 yard target. That will be the next time.

Good rifle. Glad I spent the money on an accurate rifle. Ugly stock, but damn accurate rifles.

Dave.
