Staining the antlers?
« on: June 05, 2009, 08:58:42 AM »
I am new to the skull cleaning thing.  I just did a yote mount that came out pretty good and I am now in the process of doing a buck skull for a friend.  I am using the maceration method.  My question is weather or not the water that I am soaking the skull in will stain the antlers.  I am changing out the water as it turns color and starts to stink.
It's all a hot mess...........

No.  That's why you change the water.  When it's done give it several days in good, direct sunlight and you'll be good to go.  Check old threads and you'll see several I've done and how white they turned out.  I've never bleached or added any other chemical to the process and they turn out whiter than when I boil or bug them.
