As to can a gunsmith do it? I would have to guess that would depend on the smith. I've not used it for that purpose but have used it to etch in decorative designs and it worked quite well. I got the information from some of the old gunsmithing tomes, not sure which one just now.. The pattern is already in the steel in this instance so should be simpler?? In some ways hunsmiths are like mechanichs, some do work others won't or can't. The safest soplution would be to send the piece back to the manufacturer or perhaps find a local jewler who would deepen the roll marks for you. An engraver could also deepen these but you will have to find one that's not afraid of working on a firearm.. A local engraver used to do the caliber engraving for the shop I used to work at. It added a lot to the professional look of the rifle.
