Experiences with Browning BAR 243
« on: November 23, 2005, 04:13:54 AM »
I have just purchased a Browning BAR stalker in 243.  I intend to use it as a walking around coyote gun.  I have read numerous good reports about the accuracy and reliability of the BAR rifles.  I plan to top it with a Pentax 3X9 scope with the ballistic plex graduated reticle.  My old favorite load for a bolt 243 was 43 grns of IMR 4350 pushing a sierra 85 grn HPBT bullet.  I plan on using the same charge weight under the Hornady 87grn v-max.  Anyone have experiences with the BAR in 243 they would like to share?  Alo I ordered the small base RCBS dies, is it neccisary to use small base dies or will regular full length resizer dies function?

Just a follow up on my questions.  I purchased a really nice Browning BAR stalker synthetic in 243.  I replaced the Pentax scope with a Leupold 6-18.  I needed to use extension rings to get the eye releaf right.  All I can say is this gun is a shooter.  With the varmint load using 87grn v-max bullets and 4064 powder I consistantly get 3/4 inch 3 shot groups at 100yds.
