What is the average price of a surplus rifle
« on: November 17, 2005, 03:57:08 AM »
Hi:

What is the average price for a surplus military rifle? I was thinking of either a 6.5, 7mm or 8mm Mauser rifle. What is the average price for one in very good to excellent condition and who sells them?

Thanks,

Kind of a pretty open ended question.  Not quite sure how to answer your question.

There is a combination pawn shop/gun shop I know of that usually has a rack of milsurp rifles, some bubba-ized, some scoped, some Mauser, some not.

I haven't seen anything on the rack for less than $79 (an MN -not a Mauser), or more than about $300 (fancy stock, fancy scope, etc.)

If you just want a "shooter" and go to a place with a reasonably good selection, and don't want a scope, bent bolt handle, or standard US caliber cartridge, you should be able to find happiness for between $150 to $200.

Then again, if you watch your sales, you can buy a new Savage 110/111 with a scope, a choice of calibers and a warranty for about $300 to $350.

Just Watch out and don't be fooled by what the salesman
tells you!!! Just because they "SAY", "Captured at Stalingrad"
or "Sniper" does not make it so.. Most of the sniper rifles I have
seen were produced by the importers once they got all the parts
to the U.S.! The only difference between a $85.00  rifle and a $600.00 or $700.00 "Sniper" is a scope and mount added 50 or 60 years later!
Some importers will go so far as to forge stamped Proof Marks!
Don't be fooled by importer Gimmicks!!!

S.Sumner is correct there was only one russian factory that produced sniper mosin rifles so all the rest are fakes one must be aware of this when looking for one. Since I wanted one I built one myself. I wasn't interested in an orginal or a collectable I wanted one i could use. A $79 mosin,  $89 scope mount and a new bent bolt.

We have some great buys on Yugo mausers,  Turk mausers, 303 Britt's,  swiss k31's, and Mosins right now.  Were talking between $75 to $150.  Were starting to hit the end of the Yugo sks's too so if you want one don't wait and pay a little more to get a better one because some of the lower end ones may have some rust. As we get closer to the  last of the supplies now is the time to get these fines weapons/treasures if you want one before there all gone. Lets face it the supply isn't endless and they aren't making any new ones, well they ain't dated 1944 if they are.

REMEMBER;  When the chinese sks first hit our shores selling for $1,000 and the first yugo sks's were $1,200  I hope we all remember this when the next hot item or new sks to us hits our shores don't get ripped off.
