Mounting scopes on Nagant and Turk Mauser-Advice?
«

Hopefully buy the end of the next few months I will finally finish my project to mount these 2 rifles. My Nagant has a Hex reciever so I believe it should be a little easier to mount than the round.
This has probably been asked to death, but what kind of scope mount do you recomend? Taps and drill press...I have all the needed tools.
Advice??

You mention taps and drill press great but how about a scope mounting jig for drilling holes in the receiver and keeping it aligned and straight? Unless you have one do not start until you do. Expecially if you are going to do a couple of guns it will pay for its self. I do not care how carefull you are if you do not have a jig it is about impossible to get the job straight. So take it to the gun smith or buy a jig. The jig will pay for its self with a couple of rifles which you plan on doing. Jim

Thanks Jim. I am not sure exactly what this is though
Do you have a link you could show me?
I have 8 M44 barreled recievers in great shape, so I thought I would practice on one or two of these first, before going onto my main tasks.

I would do a search and see what you can find Brownells sells one for 125 bucks. ( Whilliams) Bsquare makes one too but considering their scope mounts I am not sure how well their jig is made. They are a bit pricey but if your going to do a few guns it is worth it. a ruined reciever is no bargain either. I have heard of some folks who glued the blocks on the reciever and drilled and tapped through them as a guide trust me that does not work I tried it on a old spanish mauser and had a heck of a time getting things straight. A jig or a gunsmith with the jig is the only safe way to go. After you see what they are maybe you can find one on Ebay or some where else used for a better price? Jim

For the Mosin I would recommend this Mount
http://www.interordnance.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=INTERORDNANCE.com&Product_Code=M91WVRMT
I just got this one to mount on one of my Mosin's, very good Quality.
Or a Scout Mount from Darryl, also great Quality. I'm ordering one on Tuesday for another Mosin.
For the Mauser, Leapold. You wont have to grind of the stripper clip hump.
You can get a Mauser jig from midway made by Wheeler for about $40.00
I have done three Mauser's so far, works great. Double check hole placement before drilling and get a couple of Cobalt bits, the high speed bits burn up quick.

That is a good looking Mosin, been eyeballing it on the other pics you posted
Also like the Bi-Pod attachment as well.
Still haven't ordered a mount yet
How difficult was it to mount the scope mount as compared to the other top down drill and tap method?

Howd'y myarmor:
The mount is pretty straight forward for a round reciever.
I would not use the ATI top mount, I'v seen one mounted and it looks like junk, JMO.
Also Kalinka make a good mount.

SVD, POSP side mount for Mosins from Interordance all the way. $20 for a mount and screws no directions but its self explanatory. I got pics in any case, its what i'm doin to my M91-30. Throw a POSP on and you got a mean Mosin. or 1" svd mount so you can put your scope of choice.
