well,I finally got my 243 superlight back along with the 270 ultra comp and the standard 223....I shot the 243 @ 25 yards and after sighting in put 3 bullets in the same hole in the bull :grin: .I haven't tried it at 100 yards yet,but i will tomorrow...I'll keep ya posted...I shot the 270 just to shoot it,and it came open when fired,i tried to use the search feature on this site and it wouldn't work,what do i need to check to correct this problem?

Make sure it's real clean, particularly the latch and latch shelf, should be clean and dry, no oil. Smoke the latch shelf and make sure there's at least an 1/8" engagement, and no burrs or rough spots on the shelf. A little light honing on the shelf will improve the engagement.

Thanks,Tim....I'll check that out tomorrow afternoon when i sight in the 270...how dangerous is this? also,If i sight in the rifle @ 25 yards,where will it hit again (what yardage)?

About the worse case scenario is an ejector equipped barrel will eject the hot case and hitcha in the forehead!!! Wear eye protection!! Pop opens are kinda common on new rifles, easily fixed by shooter or H&R as a last resort.

BTW the trigger is quite nice since they lowered the poundage.
and the chances of me sending it back and bein without my rifle are .000004%,maybe after gun season,but i doubt it even then....if I can't fix it,i'll take it to a gun smith :grin:

Good to hear you got to at least shoot them. How far did the breach open?
I'm with you on the sending off part. If you send it off again, make sure you have another to keep you company

hmmmm,like it goes on the breech end easy,but then you have to push up pretty hard and put the screw in....tight fit on the barrel diameter,i think

The forearm pressure isn't going to make it pop open...do as Quick said to do...smoke the latch and check it...a very light honing will eliminate the problem if it is this...my 270 ultra comp had the same problem when I got it...it locks up good and tight...as far as the forearm being tight...I've found this actually helps my rifles accuracy to be this way...

I was going to say all of my forearms are tight. I have to press them up on the stud and they fit snug. Especially when I shim them.
Just as long as your not getting a lot of pressure against the barrel itself.
But of course that wouldn't make it pop open, just the possibility of it effecting accuracy. I don't like for anything to touch my barrel.
Go ahead and try what Tim and Mac said.
These 2 guys have never lead me astray :agree:

yeah,Mac and Tim seem pretty knowledgeable.....and like they might be decent guys,too

I'm gonna shoot everything tomorrow and see how it turns out....i'm hoping it was just the oil that was on it.....and there was some oil :?
