If you want a short bbl you're gonna have to go with the stanard Single Six as the .22lr Bisley only is available in a 6 1/2" bbl. The .22 Bisley is only available in blued as well. Even if you were to go with a Single Six there's not regularly produced 4 5/8" bbl in stainless.  A few small runs were made but they will now command a premium if you can easily locate one.   I like the Bisley grip.  It's especially nice with heavier loads in the centerfire models.  I still enjoy my plowhandle frames as well, including my Single Six.were it me to buy a packing revolver, I'd personally go with a Single Six in .32 magnum if one was available. (only Vaquero sytle ones were made in stainless)  A litle more oomph but still on a small frame so it's not too much added weight on your hip.  If you can wait, Ruger is to continue production of the medium frame flat top Blackhawk in '06 and one of those in .357 would be a step above the little .32 in my opinion.  No stainless in that one either however.  Given the current offerings from Ruger and your requirements...proberly go with a KNR5 (5 1/2" stainless Single Six)

Here is my .02cents..... EVERONE SHOULD OWN ONE! (or at least try one out) I am on my third. Here it is. Slightly modified and perfect for tooting in the woods.

I wish Ruger would make these.

For the purpose you mentioned(trapline) you'd be very hard pressed to beat a 5.5" stainless Single-Six. They're easily found, new, or used, tough as nails, accurate, and very "packable".

The 22 LR cylinder will do fine for dispatching critters in traps, and even if you're targeting bigger(bobcat/coyote) sized critters in your traps, the magnum cylinder loaded up with any of the hotter 22 magnum ammo will take care of that chore easily enough too.

As far as general small game, and plinking, load it up with Wal-Mart special Federal 36g HPs, and you can shoot till your heart's content for about $9 per 550 rounds.

I absolutely love my 5.5" stainless, and wouldn't part with it for the world!

I have the single-six, blued 5.5'' barrel with both cylinders that I love. I also have a Vaquero bisley .45 5.5'' barrel and I like the bisley grip ok but with the bisley hammer my thumb will slip off sometimes while fast cocking. The plow handle just seems to do good in my hand be it the .22lr or the .45 calibre.

Just my opinion, FWIW....
If weight will be an issue, and it may with a gun that will carried a lot a used a little, get the blued Single Six. They have an aluminum grip frame.

I have one of each and in the single six I cannot tell much difference. Both of mine have 6 1/2" barrels but I wish one was shorter.  I do not like the Bisley grip on a big caliber because the recoil hurts my hand, but on a 22 recoil is not an issue and the grip is a little bigger and fills my hand better.

If you want both cylinders that throws the Bisley out unless you want to add another cylinder since it only comes in LR.

My opinion, get the single six you want with the 4 5/8" barrel.  Then put a bisley grip frame on it.  You will have your own unique gun.  Those 4 5/8" are sooooo nice to carry.  I saw the single 6 with 9" barrel and traded away my 4 5/8" model to get it.  Boy did I miss that little gun.  Have a replacement now for about 8 yrs.  Carry it all the time.  Accurate grouse gun and fun to shoot vermin squirrels, etc.

Have fun and choose your own gun.

I have a  blued model and really just love to shoot it......A real fun gun with very little maint.  There is just something about that gun when I pick it up, I don't want to put it down........Get one, you'll see what I/we mean.

Check your minimum barrel length rules for hunting. Here in NC, a rimfire has to have 5 1/2" to be legal for hunting!

I put Super Blackhawk gripframes on all of my Siingle Sixes except for the 4 5/8".  It balances out the longer barrels nicely.  My favorite is a 6.5 stainless.  Had it for almost 30 years.
