What can you tell me about the Pikes Peak Ghost Town? The reason I am asking is my sister Gail is in Colorado Springs, Colorado with her daughter Becky and her three children while Becky's husband Wayne is in Iraq. Gail told me that she could look out Becky's kitchen window and see Pikes Peak and was told there was a ghost town there. She said that she would like to visit it before she comes home in April.

Lady GB.

I'm not aware of a gost town by Pikes Peak.There is one close to the Royal gorge but I dont think you can see that from Colorado Springs.
I have seen a small remains of a town I think it might have been in the Cheyenne Canyon (not sure on this)just south west of Colorado springs,but some of the buildings looked like they were still in use.
The one close to the Royal Gorge,some of the buildings were relocated to that spot,and they are used for some movie sets.

Leadpot, Thank you for the information. Gail told me before she comes home she is going to do some hiking and take some pictures. I was wondering where would be the best place for her to do her hiking in Colorado Springs.

Lady GB.

I dont know much about Colorado Springs.That place is way to crowded for my liking. I like the Silverton erea in CO.I look for gold arround that erea.There are a lot of places to get lost in and a lot of old gold camps and a lot of history.

I dont know how Gails heath is,but there are about five trails on pikes peak at different levels.It is best to pick up a map from the rangers station and leave a travel plane with them.I was on one last summer were my 63 year old lungs were trying to tell me something I didn't want to hear.

I think the Rocky Mountain National Park has very good trails for all skill levels and lengths of walking abilitys and it is a beautifull place.But this time of year it might get a little snow.I have never deen there this time of year so I cant say.

For my winter walks I like Michigans UP.The snow gets deep but a good pair of snow shoes gets you arround real well.But then you have to be a little nuts I guess to like that :roll: I was setting up my hunting camp last week and had a little snow comming down allready.
Sorry that I cant help you much for Colorado,it's just to crowded.I spend most of my time in Montana or Wyoming.

Leadpot, Thank you for your help. I passed the information to Gail when she yahooed me tonight. She told me that she would love to pan for gold and she told me that she would choose the lowest level to hike because she didn't think she could make any of higher ones.
