Did I make the right choice?
« on: November 23, 2005, 02:10:05 PM »
I bought some 357 mag ammo today which will be used in a rifle for deer hunting.  I had a choice between 158 grain jacketed soft point or 125 grain hollow point.  I chose the 158.  Did I chooose right?

Yes, the 125 gr JHP would be a great varmint bullet when pushed out of a rifle, but for deer the 158 JSP is a better choice.

I bet 180's would be awesome out of a rifle.  You did right by not getting 125 hollow points :P ....Van

You bought the right ammo. All I use for deer now in both my revolver, and rifle is 158g Remington SPs.

Keep your range at, or under 100 yards, and you'll have no problem dropping a deer with that rifle/ammo combination.
