OK I did it, I bought my birthday gift one week before my birthday. I bought a Marlin 1895GS, it was love at first sight. I only went to the sporting good store to look and price some guns. When I held and looked at the 1895 I knew I just had to have it. Does anyone have this rifle and have you changed the sights? I have not shot it yet but I think I might want to change the front sight. In low light aiming its a little difficult to see the front sight for me, any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

PS I am in the dog house because of this purchase, if had to do it all over again I would not change a thing.

I'd put a nice set of ghost ring sights on it.  The XS system sights have a really nice front post that makes fairly precise shooting out to 100-150 yards fairly easy.  THe Wild West Guns sight is a fiber optic sight that is reallly easy to see and quick to aquire but makes precise shooting more difficult at longer ranges.

i also own one and brought it last spring and also felt it was loue at 1st, site !!!!!   my 1895 g.s. is sweet i,m thinking about scoping it any feeling on that topic. glass on a 1895 g.s.????

Scout style scope

I have been really liking the scout scope setup on my stainles guide gun.  I liked it so much I had a bolt gun setup the same way.  It is really handy in close cover and moving objects.  Its just about the most practicle scope setup you could have for a close/medium range big game rifle.

I really admire Thebear's 1895GS. It looks like it would be a real pleasure to own......mine is more "plain Jane" and my style. Only additions are the slip on recoil pad and the XS ghost ring sights.

Whatever you do with yours, Holman, it will become individualized to your liking. Let us know what you do.

The recoil pad is a Limbsaver, available most anywhere. I put it right over the top of the original recoil pad. It extends the length of pull about an inch, but I've found that to be of little consideration.

Pardon me, but if it were me, I'd have said something like....Show me the man who does not want his gun registered, and I will show you a man who thinks the government has no business registering guns. To do so has historically shown to be the precursor to confiscation. There is no other reason for registering firearms, as it has shown to be ineffective in crime prevention.....and that's the reason always given for registration.

RKBA is a right, not a privilege. Registration is more in line with the privilege concept.

No flames intended towards Holman, but I had the same questions concerning his sig line.  Gun registration has nothing to do with what I consider "legal ownership".  There isn't required registration of vehicles if you drive them "offroad only" and to me one object is no different than another.

Ownership is ownership.

The Loop is a wild west loop,  I went with thier loop because they are just downtown and I could just drive down and get one.  THe DRC loops are supposed to be pretty nice too.  

The light isn't for night hunting, its for those night time walks to the crapper, or investigating those strange sounds outside the tent.  We leave out toilet, 30gal can with toilet seat lid screwd on the top, several hundred yards away from the tents because the scent can attract bears.  It is also pretty nice for tracking jobs that go on into dark or near dark,  or the walk back to the truck after fishing  on a bear infested stream.  

Having a bright light right at the end of your rifle sure beats trying to hold a flashlight in the other hand while holding a rifle.

I agree with you, but the government does register guns. That said what would be the reason why you would not want your gun to be registered?  :?  My guns are registered and I would never buy a gun off the streets. Do you think that there should be no age minimum to buy guns? Do you think that all Americans are fit to have guns? Registered or not anyone who wants a gun can get one. I just prefer to get mine the legal way not saying that the legal way is right just saying that is the way I will purchase my guns.   :-)

Very good point, If you do have and drive a vehicle on road is it registered? If so why?

Out of curiosity, do you like the XS scout mount better than the WWG?  If so, why?  I haven't had a chance to see either and am looking for an opinion of someone who has seen both.
