Winchester 9422 for Cowboy Silhouette

I am new to the cowboy rifle silhouette game. (shot it once:) I am currently using a Marlin 39A with a Williams sight. I have a small Winchester 9422 that I would like for my son to use. Does anyone make a good sight system for this gun? Can I expect this small rifle going to be accurate enough to use? All input appreciated!!

The Williams FPTK for grooved receivers will fit the 9422. You'll need a higher front sight IIRC. A number of people around here use that rifle/sight combination for cowboy without complaint.

Also, the triggers on the 9422 are pretty heavy as they come out of the box. (The trigger return spring must have been dreamed up by a lawyer who previously designed leaf springs for John Deere!) If you take it to someone who understands how much to bend that spring, the pull can be very easily reduced to a much more useful weight. Often, it isn't even necessary to stone the sear or hammer once the spring tension is 'fixed'.

I started shooting cowboy lever action silhouette last year. I had a 9422 in the closet that had been there about 20 years. I installed a marble tang sight and had good luck with that combo with the factory front sight. This year I bought a 94 Legacy in 357 for pistol cartridge and used Williams recv. sight with a Lyman 17a front. I use thinner, Shaver inserts in the front sight. I liked this setup so much that I installed the same front on the 9422 and the Williams rear that Nomad refers to. I like this much better than the tang and original front sights. The triggers on the factory guns did need work. Also, if you do go with a Williams recv. sight you can order a knurled elevation lock screw from Williams to replace the std. one that requires a screwdriver when adj. elevation. I had to shorten the screw a little on a grinder. This is not a Williams catalog item but is std. on target sights. Good luck.
