Well my truck has been in the shop for a week. Was bummed as I missed hunting this morning. I thought first time in 29 years I would miss a opener. I started hunting in 64 missed 75/76 because was out of state and hunted ever since. Truck was done at 1:00 and I was in my Hunting area at 2:45 and was gutting a doe at 3:00. Gun was my Swede Mauser 6.5 made into a scout rifle. One Neck shot and venison hanging. . Luck or fate not sure but it takes the pressure off. I really love this gun some may cringe as it is not stock anymore but it sure makes a great hunting rifle. !

I HAVE A SWEDE SCOUT AND JUST GOT A SPORTER BACK FROM REBARRELING. DOUGLAS BARREL MED. HEAVY 24IN. TIMNEY TRIGGER, TASCO SCOPE. THE SCOUT HAS GLASS STOCK TIMNEY TRIGGER, AND BURRIS 2-7 SCOUT SCOPE. I LOVE BOTH! AND THEY SHOOT GREAT!

You're not likely to go wrong with a Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55. I have 3 of the old M96s from 1900, 1907 and 1917 and handload for them. It's really surprising just how accurate these rifles are. To put meat on the table I resort to my Remington Classic, also in 6.5x55. I could probably get them with the M96, but that 29" barrel is just a bit long to tote around in the woods. Best wishes.

LOL, my 1905 96 just got dressed out in a nice piece of walnut for the first ever rifle season in my area. We were relegated to slug guns. I bought it sporterized over 10 years ago and added a Timney trigger and now the stock. The butler creek that came with it was molded with a left hook in it but the bore was like new.

Worked on it over the summer, worked up a load (H380 and a Hornady SST 140gr), just in time. Shot .75" on the bench at just about 2500fps.

The opener was last Saturday and a nice lil spike made the mistake of stepping in front of the old Swede.

Just finished a dinner of pan fried tenderloin :lol:

Congrats on your Spike Rick!

My Swede shoots so good I will leave it in its cut down military stock. I find the trigger on my Swede is not all that bad for a military trigger either so I will leave it with what mods I have done so far.
