Before y'all start laughing you rear ends off, I'm just looking to see if a single action hunting handgun in .480 will work in CAS with light loads...(say 325 grain bullet at or less than 800 fps). I'm not looking to be competitive, just wanna know if a person could use this if they didn't have anything else.

WHY NOT!
All of the sass shoots I have been in you can use any thing in reason, as long as it represents the era, caliber has never been an issue, as long as you were not shooting thru the targets, or putting people in danger.
The data for the load sounds in line with rest of the ammo used.

Woodchuk, Nope, you can not shot .480 in CAS with NCOWS or any other group I know of. Handgun cartridges manufactured before 1899.

As per the shooters hanbook found at http://www.sassnet.com/pages/SHBv101.pdf
For modern class: "Any .32 caliber or larger single action revolver with adjustable sights."

There is no mention of period cartridges for the modern class, although frontiersman and traditional class do mention using period revolvers (or replicas of) manufactured prior to 1896...Even here the wording is unclear as they do not specify caliber, just gun.

So, in the absence of more clearly defined rules I am wondering what most clubs allow. Do any prohibit the use of .480?
