An Aspect of Reloading Just Got Easier.
« on: November 21, 2005, 03:51:11 PM »
I have to say it was well worth it, as the guy in the brown truck dropped off a brown box containing my long awaited tool today.  The daunting task that lay ahead of me, some 140 or so 308s waiting to be trimmed, had me getting desperate.  I was getting tired of using the hand crank, and my arm and finger muscles weren't appreciative about the idea either.

Finally did a little modernizing, and purchased a power accessory for my RCBS Trim Pro. :yeah:  After getting it together, I was anxious to give it a whirl.  The first few took a little doing, as I was getting used to this "new" tool and adjusting the cutter to give the proper OAL.  Once I got the hang of it, I was cuttin' away, and those casings didn't stand a chance.  Even in their large numbers, they were no match for progressive technology.  As I was getting more familiar, I found out I could do around 4 cases per minute.

As the number of cases dwindled, and the little pile of golden slivers grew, reminisicent of progress, I decided then and there I was nuts for not getting this puppy sooner.  I trimmed around 141 cases in under 50 minutes, which was a breeze after all the trimming I used to put up with minus the accessory.  Being I was able to get all that done in less than an hour, coupled with the fact I had zero cramps in my hands and fingers, not a bit of sweat, and the utter convenience of it all was simply amazing.

I'm really happy with my purchase so far, and I hope it holds up for a good time to come.  I still don't know why I put it off this long. :?

That is how I feel about getting my Trim-Mate.  What a great tool!  I have also thought about upgrading from my hand crank trimmer to a Trim Pro; but since I dont shoot real hot loads, typically I only trim brass once or twice and then only 10-15 at a time.  Still . . . that and a digital scale would be nice.

I have owned the power trimmer and the Trim-Mate for a few years now. I’ll never prep cases without either of these tools again. The Trim-Mate can be a little hard on your fingers when uniforming primer pockets but nothing like doing it by hand. If you do a lot of reloading these tools are money will spent.

I prefer the Dillion style that allows FL sizing and trimming all in one shot.
