Modified 45 Ruger Old Army

I remember seeing a webpage by a Michigan gunsmith that modified the Ruger Old Army to accept more powder and he put a longer barrel on it for hunting. The guy claimed that you could load 50 gr of H777 with a Power Belt bullet to achieve some 44 magnum like power.

I did some searches but cannot seem to find anything. I was wondering if anyone else heard of this?

I have heard of people having the chambers deepened and getting close to 44 mag ballistics using lead conical bullets.

I have read that there is a small step inside the cylinders of the Old Army. Some gunsmiths can take the stock Ruger Cylinder and remove this step which will allow slightly more powder capacity.
   The Clements conversion on Gunblast actually changes the caliber. IIRC it also costs around $995 to have it done to your gun.

:-D David Clements built the gun. It is actually a .485 caliber 5 shot. It is a .485 caliber so that it can use the standard .490" diameter round ball for a .50 caliber M.L. rifle. It outshoots any C&B revolver that I have ever shot. I guess it may be a bit of an oddity as I think at this time there are only four of them in existance. Obviously it is not for everybody but I have no regrets having it built. You will find some better pictures at the link below.
