SB1 or Topper hammer in SB2?
« on: November 26, 2005, 04:44:05 AM »
I have a faint recollection (like most of my recollections these days) that somewhere, sometime, somebody, mentioned something about putting a hammer from either a shotgun or a Topper in an SB2 frame. The recollection is that this hammer has a different profile than the normal, current hammer, and allows for slightly more clearance for the scope.

Am I recollecting correctly..?

Cheers

No Tim , Actually I don't remember the gold tone hammer...! But it sounds intriguing.

I like the price on the mannlicher forends they list, but they also seem to be all out of stock!

This morning I just happened to compare a Topper frame with one of my SB2 frames and noticed that the hammers are different shapes, and the Topper is definitely a lower profile... then I thought I remembered somebody saying they had used a Topper hammer on their frame in order to get more scope clearance.

I have a 357 mag barrel on the Topper, and a peep sight, and don't have any plans to put a scope on it, but I might just to experiment.

Anyway, I am not actually prepared to change hammers at the moment, but I was curious. Maybe when I finally get around to doing a trigger job I'll go that route... but so far all my triggers are satisfactory.  8)

Thanks
Kerry

Kerry, I've been thinking about just ordering one to try it, but they list 4 different hammers including the gold tone. If they changed the internal fit, they most likely wouldn't work on the SB2, but I spose with the matching trigger, it might work fine. I'll be waiting for your results. Here's the original thread(I think!) which won't open for me, now.

just as an aside, H&R may still have a few Mannlicher forearms available. I and several others bought them earlier this year. If you do want one just call CS and inquire....<><....
