Had a real interesting talk with the Director of Marketing of Marlin this afternoon.I was trying to impress upon him...that having some of the longer barrels would be a benifit to us Handi-holics...especially in the 270...308...30-06..35 Whelen...I ask him if it were possible to make them available as a barrel accessory items too.. for everyone.. since they start out in the longer lenghts to begin with....I also told him of this forum(he was already aware of it).and he said they would have to discuss this in their meetings...and see if it were possible...so...if you could ...would you...and which one...I think a a 26" bull barreled fluted 308 would be a blast to own...same too for the 26" 270 and 30-06...especially since I plan on converting one early next year anyway...I know you can only vote once...but you can post to this as well...

Count me on the 308 All the way my friend...that would be simply awesome! :agree:
Though a Fluted 270 and 30-06 would be nice as well, but if I have to pick one the 308 wins hands down for me.

I voted for the fluted BB .308, but I'd also take a fluted .270!

I'd buy at least one of the 308's the day they became avaliable, probably have it sent in for a new barrel in the same so I had a spare when I shot out the first one.

I had one of the .308 accessory bull barrels added to convert my .223. I have got to say that I loved that gun beyond measure. I no longer have it because it became a present for my son-in-law. I told him if he could find a better shooter that I would buy it for him. That gun will always shoot better than either one of us. I would strongly recommend the .308 bull barrel, but I would be quick to buy the 26" barrel.

I would absolutely love a long barrel 308 and would buy it up the instant it became availiable, probably even buy a second barrel as a replacement for when I shot out my first one. While the fluting is nice, it would not be as much of an issue for me as the length. As far as I'm concerned a 26" barrel should be minimal for a single shot, as I love my 32" barrel on the BC, and while I like my 500S&W, the one thing I would dearly love to change is that stinking short barrel.

I voted for the 26" Ultra 30-06. My question is why is only the .308 offered in the Bull Barrelled Fluted version in this "poll"? That sort of skews the poll results, a LOT... To be fair each caliber offered should be offered in the same barrel configuration...26" Bull Barrelled Fluted. It seems the poll was stacked up to make the .308 the winner. Well it's working, I almost voted for the .308 because of the barrel, I don't even care about the fluting, I want a nice long barrelled accurate bull barrelled target gun. My love of the 30-06 won out...Come on now lets make this a fair poll....<><.... :oops:

i voted for the 308 but i would buy the 308 and 270 this second if they where $200 a pice.

and even if the 06 was in there the 270 is the hunting gun and the 308 is the target king.

Andy.....if and when they make these barrels...I'm sure you can have the flutes or the plain version...Noboby is trying to slant it one way or the other...I'm just trying to get them all produced..and thought this would be a good way to go after it..and since there are more target 308's than any made in the other calibers.....sheeese :roll:

It's nice to have shorter barrels in a few calibers for brush/truck/saddle guns, but not ALL of them.
That is aside from the 280 and 25-06.
It absolutly gets to me that they only offer right now a 308 in a 22" Bull Barrel :? :x .........come on.
And you got to admit, it would be killer to have a 26"Bull 30-06 too Mac :wink:
Especially when you consider not many Big Name manufactures offer a 30-06 in a Bull Barrel config. What is it, only Savage?
But still if nothing at all, I vote 308!

OK Mac, I'll accept that, but why is the .308 the only one offered in the Target Bull Barrelled version? Thats what I think is unfair. I guess I'm just old but I still think the 30-06 is the king of long range target work, and I realize most would prefer the newer .308, but in reality the .308 is just a shortened 30-06 with less powder capacity and less versatility for reloaders. That said, the .308 is a GREAT round also....<><.... :grin:

I just hunt with mine,only one I'm getting that i can afford to target shoot with is the .223.......I'd really rather have the shorter barrels as long as they stabilize the bullet well enough to hit a deer in the boiler room at 250-300 yds....and since i just ordered the .270 ultra comp,I'll just have to wait and see...but from all reports,it should :grin:

I would very likely buy a.308 26 inch regular or bull barrel. The same for a .30-06 barrel 26 inches long, regular contour only. If my ship ever comes in, I'll get a .338-06 one way or another. It may have to be the same way others here have done. I just hate to buy a $100.00+ barrel and spend another $300.00+ to get it re-bored. Now and again money gets tight. I would very much like to see the longer barrels as accessories also.

I have dies and components for all those rounds. I voted for 270 Ultra. 270 is my favorite of the bunch. I have seven? different bullet weights available. I have a lot of loads and chrono data for 270 as well.

well i've made up my mind. i just want a freaking custom shop !!!!!! how about this : 308win fluted bull barrel 26 inches puls the ultra comp muzzle break OAL might be like 29 inches . but boy i would be in love .

I woulld like to be able to order NEF/H&R centerfire barrels, in their current caliber offerings, in whatever barrel length I wanted(within reason).
Seems like a couple of guys and a lathe could cut barrel blanks to length, cut and crown as a part of the production process. I would pay extra for that as a part of ordering a new barrel.

The 26" 280 Remington barrel is interesting, but I own a 270, shoot and reload for 270. A 26 or 28" barreled 270 on a Handi frame would be great.
