Are TC's legal in California?
« on: May 28, 2005, 12:40:54 PM »
I assume so since the IHMSA has a good club in LA that I know of, but neither the TC Contender, nor the Encore are on the approved handgun list on the state web site. And it would have to be considered a handgun since it is possible to put a barrel of under 16" in length on it. So any california TC owners out there who can shed some light?

Thanks,
Rob

The TC is legal in the PRK, BUT they can't be sold by a dealer.  That said, they be sold pvt. party to pvt. party through an 01, or by a dealer on consignment.  Yeah, I know, makes a lot  of sense, just like all the other gun laws in the PRK.  If you already own one, and move into the State you may be able to bring it in, I'm not sure.

You can also buy them here from a dealer as a rifle.

Interesting....DOJ told me all T/C's are regarded as pistol's, barrel length didn't matter.

Turner's Outdoors can sell them as rifles, but is it illegal to put a pistol bbl and grip on them for IHMSA competition? Shouldn't they be considered single actions anyways? I want one in 22LR...

I live in Orange Co., and just got a used .357 mag Contender at a Little John's auction (in Anaheim) a few months ago. He's a huge 'dealer', but doesn't sell out of the store (in Orange) anymore, just through the auctions. [www.littlejohnsauctionservice.com]

I haven't looked at gun shops for them, so I don't know about the rules there. There were about 3 Contenders in the auction I went to and some lots of barrels from a dealer that sold out. I got 4 brand new 10" barrels for mine at the same auction. [/url]
