Went and did it.

With the wifes permission I bought a stainless Encore pistol frame. Now to decide which barrel to start with? I was thinking a 204 or 22-250. This is going to get expensive.

I prefer the heavier bullet I can use in the 22-250.  :D

If you don't handload your own ammo a 223 is a good barrel, you can get relatively cheap factory loads and shoot a lot more.

DON'T DO IT

Life as you now know will never be the same!

Seriously, I really like my Encore and I'm sure will like yours too. I decided to get a 44 Mag, .223 and .308.  All are standard calibers, plenty of commercial ammunition and a wide range of reloading components, and for the most part they are relatively inexpensive as opposed to some other calibers. The .223 and .308 are military rounds so there is that outlet for ammunition too.

Good luck, enjoy,  and safe shooting!

Thanks for the encouragement :-D . I do reload which is why I was thinking the 204 or 22-250. Btw I paid $280 new I think I did ok.

 Buckeye509,

Hows the 308 to shoot? Dose it kick hard and are you using full loads in it? They had one at the store.

Are there different  loads for TC's? Do you load for them like you would a rifle?

AZ300WSM,

I like the .308 in that it will do all that I want it too without excessive recoil or expense. Thus far I've only shot Military ball ammo (FMJ) circa 1970 from LC headstamp. The muzzle velocity was, surprisingly to me, in the 2200-2300 fps range. I have not shot any commercial factory ammuniton yet, nor have I   reloaded for it. Were I to reload, I would probabely pose a query on the reloading board to get a starting point from someone who has the experience  and follow the reloading manual of choice too.

I have a 5X Burris scope on the barrel and it seems about right for the ranges I would ever consider shooting game at (right now less than 150meters). Targets are another matter entirely.

It's a matter of personal preferance and one of the things I like about the Encore system.

AZ300WSM, I bought a like new Encore pistol for the frame, base and rings. It had a SS 15" factory barrel in 22-250 and a Weaver 2.5x8 in matte I am turning. I put a Virgin Valley 16 1/4 " barrel in 308 on it. The 22-250 is tapped to use either pistol or rifle forearm. If interested send a PM. Can send pics.

In my travles today I found a blue 22-250 barrel with sights for $179.99 so I bought it.I will look for a scope in the near future but for now it will do. They had it on close out. I asked if they had any others marked down and they said not at this time. You can bet that I will keep an eye open for more.

   southern utah,

   thanks for the offer.
