Anyone own one of these? Does the shorter barrel add to or take away the recoil? Is there much muzzle flip or jump? My Marlin is being used by my son I was thing about getting one of these for me. So I can go back to still hunting need something light to carry and fast target sight picture.

never shot one.

i was in the similar situation a year or two ago and got a lever that was chambered in a pistol round.  even with a "short" barrel,  it is way longer than what pistol rounds were designed for.

I know the action is way longer than needed for pistol rounds. Thats why I'm thinking of the 30-30 so I can keep ammo buying of different brands to just a couple of different ones. The shorter barrel I've always been interested in. I just thought it would be a little faster to get on the target.

DAD - I have an older saddle ring carbine with a short barrel in 30-30 and it is an absolute 'go to' rifle whenever I want or need something short and handy for the field.  I am thinking it is probably the same length as the Trapper and they are handy rifles.  The 30-30 is a great choice.  The combination of light handling, barrel length and caliber choice make this a very popular rifle for good reason - they work.  HTH.  Mikey.

On my 30-30 trapper  I replaced the stocks with checkered laminate "Win-Tuff" added a Luepold 2x pistol scope on an Ashley base,  and have come up with as near an ideal all-around pickup gun as you could ask for. And with the new generation of ammo and an action tune in the works I expect it to only get better.
The only draw back to the shorter barrel I have found is the increased muzzle blast but that is only a consideration at the bench not in the field.

I've been hearing about the muzzle blast, 4th of July every time you pull the trigger cool! I was looking at one today and it had the wrangler loop on it. It almost followed me home, but I thought 475.00 was a little to steep.
