Anyone have a Rossi Slug Gun yet?

Just curious as to how they shoot. And was wondering how well the barrel porting works as to felt recoil.
I know this forum on GreyBeards is pretty dormant sometimes, but I though I would put it out there and hopefully get a little more action around here.

Only guessing since I haven't seen one in hand I would have to believe that the recoil would be rather harsh if it doesn't have a bull barrel like the H&R slugger. Barrel porting doesn't do much to reduce recoil but does help keep down barrel lift. Weight and stock fit is what reduces felt recoil.

Your right about the slug barrel of the H&R it is a heavy weight. I would like to see how well they shot in comparison. Need to see one in person. Hummm......

I purchased a 20 gauage Rossi slug about a month ago.  Had it to the range twice for just a few rounds each time.  VERY pleasant to shoot.  Well made, nice maneuverable length, fiber sights, accurate and a safety to boot.  I bought it for my boys to use, but when they don't go out with me I believe I'll just take the Rossi!  I know you're probably looking for a comment on the 12 gauge, but if you're not shooting far a 20 gauge will be just fine.  I have a buddy a few states away that bought the NEF 20 guage slug for his daughter and had smiliar comments.

Thanks RTBRICK. Have you had a chance to group it yet and if so what kind of slugs did you use? Sabbots or Rifled?

I have a 12 guage slug gun.  I bought it because it had open sights, whereas the H&R Ultra Slug I had did not come with them.  I have not shot it much and so far have only fired the Brenneke 600 grain slug (the kind designed for rifled barrels with the gold colored coating on it), no sabot slugs yet.  The stock design for me is nearly perfect.  I am 6'2" with ape arms.  No firearm firing one of these slugs is going to be light, but my cheekbone escaped with no bruising.  Overall, despite the lighter weight it seemed to kick less than the ultra slug.  How much of that is due to the porting I cant say.  The barrel pressure that far down the barrel cant be too much given breech pressure only exceeds 10000 psi by a little.

As far as accuracy goes it was quite acceptable, even occasionally overlapping two of those big slugs on the target at 50 paces.  Not bad in my book.  Nothing walking in the USA will walk away from a well aimed slug like that.

My only complaint was that the rear sight was not mounted perfectly inline with the bore and I had to offset the rear sight quite a bit to get it on paper.  You can actually see the offset by looking down the barrel.  I tried taking it off and remounting it but to no avail.  Not too bid a deal, I have to offset the front sight of my No4 MK 2 as well. I may actually mount a compact shotgun scope on it eventually.

xhare-Welcome to GrayBeards.
And thanks for the feedback. I have just been wondering about them and still am looking for a good Slug gun or barrel to hunt with. Still giving them a look, and would like to hear some more feedback as I am sure others would too.
