Front sight on rifle
« on: March 10, 2003, 03:24:16 AM »
Hi,
I have a question. I know that I can mount a tang sight on my lever gun, but can I also replace the front sight with a globe type sight ,or is that against the rules??

Per the SASS Shooters Handbook:

RIFLES
Main, Team, and Side Matches (not Long Range or Precision Rifle)

Only original or replica style open iron sights or tang mounted peep sights of the 1860 to 1899 period are allowed.

Hope this helps.

I read that also. But it does not specifically address front sights. I was hoping anyone with more experience than me at sass shoots would know if this was ok or not.
Thanks

I haven't seen anyone useing a globe front sight in anything other than the Long Range Rifle matches.  The closest I have seen is the hooded sight on a couple of Marlins.  Another place you might want to ask, if you haven't already is www.sassnet.com/ . There are a lot of people over there that are extremely knowledgable of the rules.
