« on: November 23, 2005, 08:54:29 AM »
Does anyone know if there is increased recoil with the new Hornady LeverEvolution ammo?

Thanks,

Increased recoil with the new LeverEvolutio

I would imagine some more recoil, but I doubt you'd notice.  It gets higher velocity with a new blend of powder and lower pressures than you'd get loading it up yourself.

A slow burning powder that gets the velocity up will have more of a push than a sharp jolt.

Plus the velocity numbers are from a 24" barrel too.

My 94BB pushes a 250gr bullet, in front of a healthy charge of RL-7, to 2130fps from a 20" barrel.  The 30-06 is rated to push a 250gr bullet to 2200fps from a 24" barrel.  My 94 kicks less than my 30-06 and weighs at least a pound less and does not have much for a recoil pad either.

I'd imagine another 150fps or so from a 30-30 will go unnoticed at the shoulder.

Tempted to get a 30-30 lever just to try this stuff out.  My one Win 30-30 (1866 Centenial rifle) is a collectable and I don't want to shoot it.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

I shot some and THOUGHT that there was a slight increase, but foolishly didn't shoot any of my old stuff to compare, so maybe not. In any event, not enough (if any) that you'd notice.
