Need 45/70 load data
« on: December 08, 2005, 03:01:05 PM »
While visiting Texas I ran across a deal on IMR 4895.

Not having any load data books with Me I relied on My  memory.

That was My first mistake.

Anyone have load data for a 405 grain lead bullet using IMR 4895?

After getting home and looking, I found I should have bought IMR4198 or H4895.

Oh well I'm sure I can use it in something else.

I'm citing this as it comes from this above mentioned load book, as to cover myself.
I have copied this down here to the best of my college educated abilities.

Here they are:
405 grn. Rem bullet----52.5 grns. IMR 4895-----1785 fps---25"barrel----26,900CUP

With the lead bullet, if gas-checked, it should be in the ball-park with the Rem..

Well, as it happens actually, that is the only load I have, but hope it helps.

The free IMR load book shows a MAX load of 52.5 of IMR4895 with 2.56 overall length using a Winchester 405 grain Soft point bullet.

It also states that the load should NOT be used in trap door rifles. The pressure indicated is 26900 CUP.

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.
