BH 41 mag, barrels turning out?
« on: November 26, 2005, 04:41:01 PM »
I know some of the regulars here have had problems with the barrels on thier SBHs, backing out. I also had this problem, and after getting it fixed sold it. I have had a BH in 41 for a few years with probably 3-400 rounds of mild mags ran thru it. So far no problem with the barrel. Anybody heard of this problem with the .41?

I haven't heard any reports of this happening with the .41"s, only the super blackhawks.  I've shot about the same amount of rounds through my .41 as you, and  haven't had a lick of trouble with it yet...and hope it stays that way!!!

.41Magnum barrels

I've got a couple NM Blackhawks in .41Magnum with SEVERAL thousand rounds through them. More than half of these were heavy loaded hunting rounds. I've had no problems with barrel turning to date. I heard about the SBHs turning so I tested one BH .41Magnum by indexing a point on the barrel with one on the frame. There's been no movement and I've put about one thousand rounds through the gun since.

This is good news. I am keeping my eyes open for a SBHH in .41, but wanted to clear this up first.

you will know it is coming if you bullet impact starts to shift to the left.  you will make a site adjustment (thinking it is you that is causing it) and the bullet impact will be right on.   a few shots later,  you will be hitting to the left again.  this will continue until you are either out of site adjustment, or looking for the pieces of the ejector rod housing.

so if you gun starts hitting to the left, beware.  if i were you,  i would look for an old model blackhawk.  the difference in quality is startling.

I have an old (20 year-oldish) New Model 41, 6 1/2" which has I have no idea how many thousands of rounds through it, many of them hot. They have mainly been hard cast though with only a few hundred, possibly 1000 being jacketed. It has shown no problems with the barrel going anywhere.
